LifePoint Health, a leading healthcare company focused on providing quality healthcare services close to home, today announced that John Young, M.D., has joined the company as national medical director of cardiovascular services. He will oversee ongoing efforts to improve quality, patient safety and clinical functions related to cardiovascular services at LifePoint locations across the nation.

In the newly created position of national medical director of cardiovascular services, Young will be responsible for implementing best practices and driving clinical and operational improvement at hospitals and clinics across the LifePoint system. Young also will serve as the Chairperson of the LifePoint Cardiovascular Physician Council, which provides guidance on matters related to policies, guidelines, evidence-based standards, compliance and operational excellence in cardiovascular services.
Prior to joining LifePoint, Young was the division chair for cardiovascular medicine at Adena Health System in Chillicothe, Ohio. He also served as an adjunct professor of internal medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and an adjunct professor of cardiology at Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens. Prior to these positions, he served in roles at Accumetrics, Inc., in San Diego, Calif., Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute in Seattle, Wash., and The Christ Hospital and The Ohio Heart and Vascular Center in Cincinnati.
Young earned his bachelor’s degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he also pursued graduate studies in biochemistry and physiology. He obtained his M.D. from The Ohio State University, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine, fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and critical care medicine, and an advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology. In addition, Young earned his M.B.A. from Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.
