Nearly all reported hospitals (96%) possessed a certified electronic health record (EHR) technology in 2015. About 85% of hospitals were using at least a basic EHR system with clinical notes, which represents a minimum use of 10 core functionalities determined to be essential to an EHR system. In 2015, over 85% of hospitals were able to send key clinical information electronically. About half of hospitals were able to access and use health information electronically available from provider organizations outside their systems.
